David Stapf made us think. Jeff Jacobs made us laugh. The audience of approximately 150 assistants and coordinators sat enthralled for an hour and half while David and Jeff delved into the whys and hows of running a network studio.
Stapf shared experiences from his career and insights as an executive, including the three qualities he appreciates in writers – the creator, the developer, and the showrunner. Additionally, Stapf emphasized how important it is for agents to understand the economics of the business in order to best serve their clients by connecting them to executives at the right time of the year. Stapf also spoke about how much easier his job became when he stopped pretending to know everything and started asking the right people the right questions.
While keeping Stapf busy talking, Jacobs interjected both jokes and comments illuminating his side of the story in his friendship with Stapf. The nature of their relationship and exlusivity of the event to members only made the conversation feel like an intimate fireside chat in the large theater at CAA.
The night kicked off a series of similar events with top industry leaders which JHRTS is planning to continue throughout the rest of the season.
