This fall has seen JHRTS LA put on a diverse assortment of panels, mixers, and events for its membership. Adam Berkowitz and Ari Greenburg, agents of legendary status from CAA and WME respectively, spoke to a room of over one hundred young executives about their career choices and obstacles in mid-September, followed by a fall premiere kick-off mixer later that month. Going into October, JHRTS members also enjoyed a panel of scripted digital executives, who discussed the current slate of digital opportunities and the future of digital platforms.
JHRTS Members who enjoyed the exclusive opportunity to serve on the Next Gen Committee watched and judged over twenty hours of independently produced content for the New York Television Festival (NYTVF) held October 20-25. At the HRTS mixer held at NYTVF, the current JHRTS Co-Presidents from Los Angeles and New York announced the upcoming JHRTS Script Competition: a members-only initiative that will go into effect early next year.
Philanthropic pursuits led to a JHRTS team participating in the AIDS Walk LA on October 12th, raising over $2,000 for AIDS Project Los Angeles. Regular beach cleanups in association with Heal The Bay continue, as does JHRTS’s production partnership with the Motion Picture Television Fund. A previous collaboration with Reading To Kids has also been reinstated, with JHRTS members attending Los Angeles Elementary to read to children in varying grades on select Saturday mornings.
An additional partnership that JHRTS has forged this year is with The Tracking Board to provide discounted membership that allows both JHRTS and HRTS members to take advantage of all The Tracking Board has to offer at 25% off. This benefit is exclusive to JHRTS and HRTS members and we hope will better educate our membership and further their opportunities to network.
Future events JHRTS members can look forward to include an intimate conversation with Nina Tassler of CBS, moderated by Bela Bajaria of Universal Television, held in mid-November. JHRTS is also hosting a panel of Human Resources executives who will discuss how to get hired and the dos and don’ts of interviewing, followed by a casual mixer. The annual Next Generation Panel with The Hollywood Reporter, comprised of a selection of executives who are named 2014’s 35 Under 35, is also slated for before the year’s end. Another among JHRTS’s annual events is the Holiday Party, which will be held this year on Tuesday, December 9th at 1oak in West Hollywood.
2014 has been a great year for JHRTS and has provided a great foundation from which to grow into 2015.
