JHRTS Has Been Busy!

JHRTS NY

As the leaves are about to turn, #JHRTSNY has been buzzing all this month with a lineup of TV focused events and mixers. Our Back to School mixer filled the jhrts_paul_greenbergroom at a popular Union Square bar and introduced the organization to tons of new prospective members. We continued our Inside TV event series where both Matt Cherniss, President and GM of WGN America, and Paul Greenberg, GM and EVP of FYI, took on the industry in an honest, eye-opening, and informative way. Cherniss dove into topics such as the littered TV landscape and how to break through the clutter img_4941while Greenberg spoke about creating authentic content as content is king and distribution is the ace. He also left the JHRTSNY audience with key advice of staying informed of industry on goings, always be networking, always be learning, and never give up. Our second Mentorship program kicked off in September pairing our members with mentors from networks, agencies, and production companies and our Jobs Board continues to be a success and puts JHRTS members at the front lines of opportunities around the city.

JHRTS LA

On Wednesday, July 13th, Vivi Zigler, President of Digital, Brand & Audience Development at Endemol Shine North America, provided JHRTS members with a vivi-zigler-eventthoughtful and inspiring leadership workshop. She discussed her experiences, how to learn from your current leaders, crafting your own leadership style, and the importance of self-awareness during all stages of your career. She graciously opened up the floor to hear individual members’ career concerns and shared key tips for aspiring executives and creatives. JHRTS Members came out of the panel in awe of Vivi and motivated to emulate her professionalism and grace in their own lives and careers.

On Thursday, September 1st, over 100 JHRTS members gathered in CAA’s Ray Kurtzman Theater for a “Script-to-Screen” panel with HBO Executives overseeing the hit series, GAME OF THRONES. Janet Graham Borba (SVP, Production) and Holly Schiffer (VP,game-of-thrones-panel Post Production) gave attendees a truly in-depth look at the entire production process for GoT. They outlined schedules for an entire season, with details on prep to production for three main units shooting concurrently in multiple locations throughout Europe, all while processing the footage for post production and visual effects. Janet and Holly shared some of the logistical challenges they face, while also sprinkling in fun facts, such as Kit Harrington doing all of his own stunts (with the exception of one shot last season)! The panel concluded with a fun
never-before-seen reel tying together pre-visualization, production, post, and visual effects. The evening was a huge success, with members following up that this was one of their favorite panels to date!
reading-to-kids

On September 10th, 2016, JHRTS volunteered with the Reading to Kids program at Los Angeles Elementary School. Waking up bright and early, 15 members donated their time to reading books and doing crafts with children from kindergarten through 5th grade. You would be hard pressed to
determine who had more fun. the kids or the reading volunteers! Being the first reading club since the start of the school year, there was a very large turn out with several hundred children and over 100 adult readers. Students were also given back-to-school supplies to help them with their daily studies. JHRTS looks forward to continuing to support the Reading to Kids program through the rest of 2016 and beyond.

JHRTS Members and non-members took overjhrts-mixer The Parlor on Tuesday, September 13th to wave farewell to Summer and prepare themselves for the best time of the year- Fall! With plenty of new and returning show about to hit the airwaves, over 150 of the industry’s future leaders discussed a wide range of topics and cooled down with tasty beverages. There was plenty of talk and excitement about the upcoming Emmy Awards, but the most exciting party of the year was already on the tips of our attendees’ tongues – the JHRTS Holiday Party!
