JHRTS-LA News & Updates: September 2014

As the new JHRTS LA Co-Presidents, we could not be more thrilled to work with this year’s motivated and well-connected Executive Board. In addition to our annual Holiday party, JHRTS members can look forward to the joint HRTS/JHRTS Mentorship program, member-favorite series like the 35-Under-35 Panel co-sponsored with The Hollywood Reporter, networking mixers, and new events our Executive Board already has planned for the 2014-2015 season.

JHRTS LA really runs the gamut in terms of events provided for our members. In the past two months alone, we hosted our annual mixer at San Diego Comic-Con, provided a panel of young executives who gave practical advice on how to succeed in the workplace, co-hosted a mixer with graduating UCLA film students, offered a panel on the business of international television, held a Speed Networking Mixer that saw an increase in our membership, and co-hosted a mixer at an LA Dodgers same where Dodgers’ General Manager, Ned Colletti, spoke about his career to a group of both HRTS and JHRTS members.
Supplementing our educational and networking ventures are our philanthropic pursuits that provide a much needed balance to the work week. This past year, JHRTS LA established a partnership with the Motion Picture Television Fund’s Channel 22, which has been both fun and rewarding.  We now have four JHRTS/MPTF co-productions in the works, where we help former industry executives and talent living on the MPTF campus to create their passion projects and generate new content for Channel 22: MPTF’s closed-circuit channel with original programming. JHRTS Members develop these projects with the residents, crew the shoots, direct, write, edit and otherwise participate in all aspects of production and pre- and post-production. We are excited to share these projects with our members and those residents on the MPTF campus in Woodland Hills.
More endeavors are underway including integrated efforts with JHRTS NY, especially for those members on both coasts who are participating in this year’s New York Television Festival, some of whom will serve on the Next Generation Committee as judges for the Independent Pilot Competition.
We are excited for what the year holds and for all the opportunities our JHRTS members can look forward to in 2014 -2015.
