Apr 13, 2011  Las Vegas, NV
On Wednesday, April 13th HRTS invaded the NAB Show to present the general session panel “Inside the Multiplatform Success of Hit TV Shows.”  Participating on the panel were Kevin Beggs, HRTS President and President of Lionsgate Television Group, Dante DiLoreto, President of Ryan Murphy Television and Executive Producer of “Glee” and Stephen Shelanski, EVP of Programming for Starz.  The wide ranging conversation on developing and managing hit shows was moderated by The Hollywood Reporter’s, Lacey Rose and covered the challenges of navigating a multi-platform world from the unique viewpoints of a show producer, a studio and a cable network.  The audience of over 400 NAB Show attendees enjoyed the rare opportunity to peel back the curtain on the creative process from the HRTS perspective.
Underscoring the importance of NAB and HRTS coming together for the event, NAB CEO, Gordon Smith opened by acknowledging the many varied groups that collaborate to create and distribute quality programming across many platforms.  Senator Smith specifically recognized HRTS and its membership as a unique organization that draws together leaders from all sides of the business. Looking to the future, Smith hoped that this would be the first of many joint efforts between the two organizations.
HRTS Executive Director, Dave Ferrara then took the stage to introduce HRTS and its mission to the hundreds of NAB show attendees in the audience.  Of special interest was the fact that HRTS now live streams all HRTS events online as well as maintains a complete “on-demand” library of past events making HRTS’ thought leadership available to individuals and companies across the globe.
After introducing the panel, Ferrara tossed to moderator Lacey Rose who led the group on a journey through hit shows such as DiLoreto’s “Glee,” Lionsgate’s “Mad Men,” “Weeds,” “Nurse Jackie,” and Starz’ “Spartacus,” “Camelot” and more.  The panel went the full allotted 75 minutes and then some and if the size of the post-session crowd  that gathered around the panelists was any indication then HRTS’ first foray into NAB Show Vegas was an unqualified success!
Editors note:  We expect to have video of the session courtesy of NAB in the coming weeks…stay tuned!
